A visit to a local rock quarry always seems to turn into a bit of an adventure.  You never quite know what you are going to find…

It's a common rule among stone wall builders that once you pick up a stone it should go into the wall and not back into the heap. Of course it is never quite as simple as that and most walls require a lot of time and energy.

A stone wall will be there for decades, even centuries, so despite the initial input, it is perhaps one of the best investments you can make when creating a truly timeless space.

Be it a single feature or a large load, the quality and individuality of carefully selected rock can add significantly to the personality of your outdoor space. By physically selecting the rock from its source we can help to link the wilderness to your garden.

The placement of rock is important as they interact with each other and their immediate environment.  I’ve always found it amazing how even rotating as little as 5 degrees, or moving it ever so slightly can often alter the feel and the energy of a space.  Further fusion of mindfully placed rock with soft planting can heighten the connection to the garden, creating a sense of simplicity and relaxation.
